Dear Parishioners,
The days are getting longer, the sun sets later and we know that spring and summer are right around the corner. Who is longing for a summer vacation?
For some reason it felt as if winter was long this year and many have shared with me that very same sentiment. But fear not, in less than a week...it’s SPRING then summer. Perhaps some may have noticed the flowers beginning to peak through the soil, trees are budding, landscapers are calling to schedule “lawn care” and to open the irrigation system. Yes I know...our landscapers have been here already and began to manicure the lawn and till the soil. It’s amazing the amount of work that goes in to having beautiful grounds. Thank you for helping us maintain our beautiful church both inside and outside.
Everyone knows that a necessity of maintaining beautiful grounds is water. We also know the importance of water in our lives; namely, hydration and cleansing. However, water in the Catholic Church takes on a whole new meaning. Holy water is used at Baptism to cleans us of our original sin, we anoint our foreheads with holy water as we enter the church to remind us of our Baptism (there is no holy water in the fonts now because of the flu season and the coronavirus).
In todays Gospel, Jesus presents to the Samaritan woman the “living water.” Jesus emphasizes that if she were to drink of this life giving water...she would thirst no more. Have we every tried to quench our thirst? Sometimes it just seems to be impossible.
However, with Jesus this is possible. This water that is offered to each one of us is given so that we may become rejuvenated, refreshed and ready to continue our journey.
As we continue our Lenten journey, we await for the life giving waters at Easter which will refresh and rejuvenate us!
