Effective preparation for the sacrament of matrimony is an essential element that the Diocese of Brooklyn is called to provide.
The diocesan Marriage Preparation or “Pre-Cana” classes are presented in English, Spanish, Creole, Polish and Italian. We also have specialized Pre-Cana for Interfaith/Interchurch couples, for couples who are re-marrying and for couples who are convalidating their civil unions.
For any Questions about Pre-Cana, Interfaith marriages and getting married in the Catholic Church, visit our diocesan Pre-Cana registration website at http://bqonlineformation.org/precana, call us at 718-281-9540, or email us at [email protected] to learn more. You can also download the 2018-19 Pre-Cana schedule.
The Engaged Encounter Weekend
This overnight retreat is Catholic in orientation, but is open to couples of any faith who are preparing for marriage and who are looking to enrich their relationship. It begins Friday evening and ends Sunday afternoon. Weekends are held at Nazareth Retreat Center in Brooklyn or at the Immaculate Conception Seminary in Huntington, NY. For more information, go to http://www.engagedencounter.org.
The FOCCUS© Pre-Marriage Inventory
This assessment tool is used to help couples identify, discuss and work through important relationship issues before they get married. It offers a map of specific topics that may need time and attention, along with offering a starting place for discussion for the engaged couple. The FOCCUS Pre-Marriage Inventory is a helpful resource for priests and deacons preparing couples for marriage. For more information visit http://www.foccusinc.com.
The above options are reserved to the priest or deacon. He will recommend either option. This recommendation will be made once the priest/deacon has come to know the couple.
